RingCentral Expands AI Receptionist With Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp Integrations

RingCentral is continuing to push deeper into AI-powered customer service with a major expansion of its AI Receptionist platform. The company announced new integrations with Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp, broadening the capabilities of its virtual assistant beyond traditional call handling and into automated customer support, scheduling, and messaging workflows.

The update reflects a larger trend in enterprise software where AI agents are evolving from simple chatbots into operational tools capable of handling real business processes across multiple communication channels.

Moving Beyond Basic Call Answering

RingCentral’s AI Receptionist, also known as AIR, was initially designed to help businesses manage inbound calls and reduce pressure on front-desk staff. With the newest integrations, the platform is becoming more capable of handling day-to-day customer interactions autonomously.

The Shopify integration allows AIR to respond to common order-related questions over the phone, helping businesses automate routine support inquiries without human intervention. The Calendly integration enables automated appointment booking, while WhatsApp support extends AI-driven customer communication into one of the world’s most widely used messaging platforms.

RingCentral is also embedding AIR into shared SMS inboxes and call queues, allowing the AI assistant to respond when staff are unavailable or phone lines are overloaded.

According to the company, more than 11,800 businesses are already using the platform.

AI Adoption Accelerates Across Service Industries

RingCentral says the strongest adoption has come from small and mid-sized businesses operating in industries with heavy inbound communication needs. Healthcare providers, financial services firms, legal offices, hospitality businesses, and construction companies are increasingly using AI receptionists for after-hours coverage and customer routing.

One customer example highlighted by RingCentral was Keller Interiors, an installation company that works with Lowe’s Home Improvement. The company deployed AIR across 33 locations to address complex call-routing challenges.

Beth Owens, chief of staff at Keller Interiors, explained that the business struggled to consistently route inbound calls across multiple offices without building a dedicated call center. After deploying AIR, the company reportedly reduced customer wait times from 12 minutes to roughly 90 seconds while also improving customer satisfaction scores.

Another customer, Maple Federal Credit Union, said the AI system significantly reduced hold times for branch support calls, allowing staff to focus on higher-value customer interactions instead of repetitive inquiries.

Multilingual AI Support Becomes Standard

One of the more notable additions is automatic language detection. RingCentral says AIR can now recognize a caller’s language and continue conversations in that language automatically.

The platform currently supports 10 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, and Portuguese.

As businesses increasingly serve multilingual customer bases, language flexibility is becoming an important competitive advantage for AI-powered support systems. Automated multilingual communication also reduces staffing challenges for companies that previously needed dedicated bilingual support teams.

The Rise of the “Digital Employee”

Industry analysts view these updates as part of a broader movement toward practical AI deployment in customer service operations.

Michelle Morgan, research manager for AI-enabled sales and customer service strategies at IDC, described the rollout as an example of applied AI focused on solving measurable operational problems rather than simply adding AI features for marketing purposes.

RingCentral executives are positioning AIR as something larger than a virtual receptionist. Joe Fahrner, the company’s vice-president of growth for AI products, described the platform as a “digital employee” designed to support smaller businesses that may lack the resources for large support teams.

That framing aligns with a growing industry narrative where AI systems are increasingly treated as workforce extensions capable of handling repetitive administrative tasks around the clock.

Pricing and Availability

RingCentral says AIR is now available as a standalone offering starting at $49 per month, which includes 100 minutes of usage. Existing RingEX customers can add the service starting at $39 per month with the same included minutes.

As AI adoption accelerates across the service economy, integrations like Shopify, Calendly, and WhatsApp could make AI receptionists significantly more valuable for businesses looking to streamline customer interactions without expanding headcount.

The latest rollout suggests the next phase of enterprise AI may focus less on experimental tools and more on highly practical automation designed to reduce operational friction in everyday business communication.
